HOW TO CORRECTLY MEASURE A PALM TREE:

1. BTH...BROWN TRUNK HEIGHT...This measurement is taken from ground base to to the base of the newest emerging spear.  BTH is the Nursery Standard Measurement and quite often the only term used when describing the size of a Palm. CTH: CLEAR TRUNK HEIGHT: This measurement is actually only the trunk height up to the pineapple of a canary or only the trunk height of the palm excluding any foliage. 
2. OVERALL HEIGHT- This distance includes everything to the fronds top. Watch those electric lines if applicable!
3. ROOTBALL DIAMETER: This is important when considering where the palm is going to be located/planted. If the location is a planter, make sure there is room for growth. A canary is robust in stature and needs room to show off. The preferred size of a root ball is 5' by 5' by 5' ball-securely wrapped to hold the roots and soil.
4. ROOTBALL DEPTH: The depth is the dimension of how deep the hole must be to secure the tree plus drainage. When planting, clean washed sand is best and don't forget the air pipes. 
5. TRUNK CALLIPER: The trunk calliper is the circumference of the trunk - the measure all the way around. Some palms are wider than others. It is important that this calliper is noted for the best look. Canary Island Date Palms come in a variety of trunk widths. Each are unique and are an amazing accent to any landscape, a true statement. 
6. CANOPY DIAMETER: Canopy diameter is the width of the total frond top. This is important not only for the appearance of your palm, it is also crucial in its placement, having enough space for the full top and for the palm to grow.

The Cycas Revoluta, or commonly known as the Sago Palm, is a wonderful plant for both indoor and outdoor use. It looks great in the shrub border or as an accent on an expanse of lawn or near the patio. Use in entryways or in rock and sand gardens. It mixes well with palms and combines well with border grass, podocarpus and camellias. The Sago Palm makes an excellent container plant for use outdoors and in the home. The Sago Palm tall trunk on older specimens, grows 8-10in diameter. It is more fern-like when small and produces offsets at base. It grows in full sun or partial shade and require a well prepared, non-alkaline soil with good drainage. Once established, the Sago Palm is fairly drought tolerant, but still requires regular watering. The Sago Palm is a slow growing palm with up to 10 ft fronds spread 3-6 ft. We have many sizes of Sago Palms from single trunk to multi-trunks specimens. All Palms have their scientific name and common name most of us know them by. Gregory Palms Farms has huge selections of the Arecastrum Romanzoffianum which is the scientific name of the commonly known Queen Palm.

The Queen palms are a tall, medium trunk, straight tree reaching up to 50 feet tall, gracefully feathery top with a smooth trunk to 25', edible orange fruits. They are used extensively by tropical landscapers as an attractive, durable palm. The Queen Palm can be exposed to full sun, heat and cold and its growth rate is fast with a moderate water need.

Hi!

Mel and Janet came to the Palm Farm looking for a beautiful specimen palm to accent their backyard pool area.  As they looked around, they decided on a multi-trunk Mediterranean Fan Palm.  It was 10 feet tall and over 4 feet wide. A real beauty!!

Their only concern was the location and actually, more about the access. So, we drove over to their home and to see where the installation was planned. First of all, there wasn't any room for a crane.to hoist this bad boy to the back.  Secondly, there were a series of steps leading

                                           Hmmmmmm!!!

                          It's easy.... we will build a ramp!!

Yes, folks, we built a ramp!! A HUGE ramp!!

Now, that's what I call service!

The guys slid the giant palm tree down the ramp and used our palm dolly (4X4) to get it close to the planter's hole.

Phoenix Dactylifera or Date palms are one of the most well known and sought after palm trees, not only for their dates but for their look as well. Your probably used to seeing the "dates" in the stores that are sweet and tasty, along with date shakes!! Date palms are very adaptable to different growing conditions, from hot, dry desserts, to wet tropics, to cold temperature regions. The Date Palm only produces edible dates in extreme hot environments. These palms also have a high salt tolerance making them an excellent choice for coastal planting as well.

These palms are usually planted in specimen sizes for an instant centerpiece, lining shopping center streets and courtyards, hotel entrances, house landscape and more. These are more affordable than that of the Canary Island date palms as well.

The date palms have a blue-ish hue to the leaves and have a woodsy dark diamond cut trunk.
