Gregory Farm Palms had the great honor of installing two Washingtonia Robusta Hybrid palms for In-N-Out at its original location that first opened in 1948 in Baldwin Park. As shown in the pictures above, the palms were installed in the same way they display them in their advertisement adds, crossing each other. In 1972 the first crossed palm trees were planted. One of founder Harry Snyder’s favorite movies, It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, features characters racing to find treasure buried under four palm trees planted to resemble the letter W. Because each In-N-Out store is Harry’s treasure, a tradition of planting crossed palm trees in front of most In-N-Out locations began
This location will be turned into a museum which would only seem right since Harry Snyder and wife Esther first introduced In-N-Out in this location back in 1948.
Gregory Palm Farms had such a pleasure working in this location and the Washingtonia Robusta Hybrids look amazing, soaring high. These palm trees can soar over 100 feet and can resist most climates, it is an all around sturdy palm with low water needs.
So if you are in the market for some Washingtonia Robustas or any other palm, give us a call at 714-814-8525 or come by our farms!
The Windmill palm makes a great accent which fits well into small areas like courtyards and entries. It is a tough plant and survives in both hot & cold urban landscapes and even thrives in Northern California and Washington climates.
Windmill palm is perfect for containers if care is taken that they are well drained. It is very attractive planted in groves and groupings especially when plants of different heights are staggered in irregular patterns.
