How much does a palm tree cost?   WHICH ONE? WE HAVE SO MANY VARIETIES!

The palm trees have different values and that is dependent on the size and the variety. You must also consider your location; cold temps, dessert, coastal, wet lands? 

The basic cost for a 15 gallon palm tree can be anywhere between $25.00 to $150.00. If you are looking for a taller tree, or a multiple trunk tree, that all cost into account on the final price.

You must ask yourself, "Am I installing it?" Are you paying a landscaper to install the palm trees?

A food for thought, even though there are amazing landscapers available, the best installation is actually from the palm farm you purchase it through. Why? They are knowledgeable from the root up, literally. What is a Chinese Fan Palm aka Chinensis? 

It's a hardy palm in a class all its own.

This palm is an extremely slow grower! This double trunk has been growing for over 25 years.

It looks delicate by the width of the trunk but it's not!

This Fan Palm is so hardy and can take very hot or cold weather.

This slow grower has unique fronds!

 

The fronds are so rich in color. The green in its body is deep and rich, like a toss between a

Kelly green and a Deep forest green.

Each of the fronds have slits in them and actually bend downwards setting off such a graceful movement.

The SAGO PALM is perfectly suited for both an indoor and outdoor environment. The Cycas revoluta aka Sago Palm makes a great decorative addition to any home or garden. It is an extremely slow-growing cycad with only about 1" of growth in height and trunk diameter a year. The trunk, which is typically 8" in diameter, supports a thick crown of rigid, dark green fronds.

The sago thrives best in either partial shade or full sun exposure and requires weekly watering until established and then it is able to survive drought-like conditions. The soil needs to have good drainage and be rich in humus.

The craziest part of landscape design is where to start first! Some say, "get the hardscape in first." Here at Gregory Palm Farms, we have a better plan.

The cost and the stress associated with planting large palms when a pool is already installed or hardscape equals more money you have to spend. Check out this picture! Everything was almost done and then the owner decided they wanted two large (20') Canary palms. We had three cranes, a big rig, a supplemental rig, tons of staff... all to install these trees. Now, if they would have called before the hardscape, the cost would have easily been CUT IN a third!

So, what to do first if you are thinking about your landscaping or redesigning/makeover our landscape? IN OUR OPINION, HERE ARE SOME TIPS!

1) Make a list of what you love! Write down what type of environment you would like, i.e.; Tropical, Drought resistant, Beach Oasis, ever green, minimal or lush. Think about what is going to be planted; Palm Trees, fruit trees (we have palm trees that have yummy fruit like the Butia Jelly Palm), Evergreen trees, privacy blocking, even specimens... whatever it is, write it down. 

2) Measure your yard completely. Begin by drawing what your yard will look like. Who cares if you think you are not an artist! No judgement, just ideas and FUN.

 3) If you have grass, trees, bushes, planters, walkways that you don't want, REMOVE everything that does not work and keep only what you love. It's going to be okay. The project can be in stages or all at once.

4) BEFORE the hardscape, large trees/palms must be installed. This will save you an incredible amount of money and frustration. This process might require hand watering, it will be worth it in the end. 

5) Build a healthy soil. Add compost if needed. Make sure this is done correctly, it will effect everything you plant. 

6-7) Irrigation is next and then Hardscape. If your hardscape is going over plumbing, make a schematic plan so you know where everything is in case of leaks or repairs. FOR YOUR IRRIGATION, PLEASE USE SCHEDULE 40 OR BETTER. You will love yourself for it later. Your irrigation must be thought through completely with drip lines considered as a good option. 

(fyi: We recently completed a landscape makeover on a relatively new home. The biggest pain in the you know what was their cheap irrigation pipes installed by the contractor that broke constantly. We ended up replacing most of their pipes.)

We were in Yorba Linda this week changing out a Canary Island Date Palm. 

The owner had literally drowned the Canary Palm with his watering system. 

We corrected the irrigation.

We dug out the dying Canary Palm and secured it on our truck.

We Dug out the putrid soil and replaced with Clean Washed Sand.

THEN, we brought in the new Canary Palm! It's large, healthy and robust size was a perfect

fit for its new home.

The fronds will remain tied up for a couple of weeks for the palm to push roots.
