Reclinatas.....

RECLINATAS...

Great for large yards, parks, campuses and other spacious areas.

The Reclinata (Senegal) palm is particularly impressive displayed against large

structures as backdrops where its gracefully curving stems are best appreciated.

Makes a great potted specimen for the patio when young.

This durable palm also thrives in large containers and other confined areas in urban landscapes.

Take a look at one of the many Reclinata specimens that we have!

This beautiful specimen getting prepped and ready to go to its new destination.

Weather? Hot and Palm-y

Hi!

It's going to be Hot and Palm-y this week.
Isn't nice to know that palm trees offer so much shade, can be planted in smaller areas, are great in planters and give your home that cooler feel!!!

Why wait for the small trees to grow... we have tall palms right now! In fact, that is what we specialize in. Have a new house but don't want the vegetation to be small and "just moved in" look?
Are you remodeling and need a yard-lift?

We have it here at the Gregory Palm Farms!!

Come on out and see what we are so excited about!!

A Few Questions About Palms...

Hi!

Happy Saturday!

With California being the Palm Capital, there are bound to be questions about these trees and their care.

In an effort to assist you, here are some answers...

"How tall does a Palm Tree grow?"
Each variety have different qualities of growth and depending on the water and soil condition is will vary. Here is an approximation!
Say the Canary Island Date Palm...
Canaries are a large majestic palms, with a very solid trunk, and long feather leaves with spine petioles. Quite a popular plant due to its hardiness, attractiveness and speed of growth. We have them at the farm as tall as 45 feet but I have seen them up to 60 feet. Their circumference is anywhere between 6 to 9 feet.  They love full sun and a slow grower!
        Say a King Palm....
The King Palm is very popular, elegant, and fast-growing palm from southern and eastern Australia has grass green leaves, a slim trunk, and a long, smooth crownshaft. An easy-to-grow plant suitable for cool temperate to tropical climates, or for indoors if given bright light. The King Palm is also self-cleaning, which makes maintaining a King very attractive. A medium grower! They are petite while young and develop the same way.
        Say a Queen Palm...
The Queen palms are a tall, medium trunk, straight tree reaching up to 50 feet tall, gracefully feathery top with a smooth trunk to 25', edible orange fruits. A fast grower! Their root system is pencil-like and can be planted easily in planters or side yards. These trees are so hardy! Great for a hammock too!!
        Say a Phoenix Dactylifera...
Date Palms are probably the second most well-known palm after the coconut , this palm produces dates. However, despite this palm being extremely adaptable to differing growing conditions, from hot, dry deserts, to wet tropics, and thru to cold-temperate regions, it will only produce dates in the hot, dry climates. It is also very salt-tolerant, making it good for coastal planting. This Palm  is medium grower! . They are the fav for the Anaheim area. The tricky part is maintaining the diamond cut trunk!
Say the Phoenix Roebelenii - Pygmy Date Palm...
Pygmy Date Palm is a small stature, delicate lacy appearance and easy care make this an exceptional palm that everyone can enjoy whether in the landscape or indoor containers.
Pygmy date palm excels in containers of all kinds. Also looks great by patios and entry ways. Use clumps of these palms as specimens and to serve as focal point in a mass planting of annuals. Also nice combined with evergreen shrubs in a mixed hedge.  The Pygmy is slow grower.

             MORE TO COME>>>>

What is a slower grower: From 3" to 8" per year
What is a medium grower: From 8" to 2' per year
What is a fast grower: From 2' to 4" per year

YAY for Palms!!!! They will turn your yard into a paradise!!!

King for the DAY!!!

Hi!

So, King Palms are quite popular but did you know why? They have an incredible sense of humor. Really, they do.

Besides, being delicate, self cleaning and just plain beautiful, they are hilarious!

Now, I know this is Friday and I'm in a really great mood, these trees are funny.

This is what they said to me. They tell the funniest King jokes around....

"What do Richard the Lionheart and Winnie the Pooh have in common?
                              Answer: The same middle name!"

"The fattest Knight at King Arthur's round table was Sir Cumference"

These trees are awesome around pools or planters of their own. They will love you like no other! Their fronds just drop off when they are done with them for easy cleanup.

Whatever you are thinking of or not yet thinking of, we have the palms for you!
Have a laugh with us and enjoy the day.
We are open now Saturdays and Sundays for your shopping enjoyment!

What is a TRIANGLE? PALM THAT IS!!

Hi!

What is a Triangle? ....A plane figure with three straight sides and three angles.

No, What I mean is ... What is a Triangle Palm? Have you seen them before?

We are the only farm that actually grows these awesome palm trees.
They are LOW maintenance, LOW water, SLOW growing and they are so pretty with their three sided trunk. Their fronds are a gorgeous blueish-green and their trunks are white!!!! The contrast is like no other.

Their trunk resembles a Rhinoceros!!! Seriously! It's soft and velvety!!

As they grow tall, their trunk becomes smooth like a Canary Palm  with the top still in a triangle. They are well paired with the Dact, and the Mexican Blue Fan Palm - all by the way,
with that pretty blueish-green coloring.
These unique palms are available now at the Gregory Palm Farm. Since we are the only farm that grows them, they are available in a variety of sizes. Come to the farm and see these graceful palm with their three-sided fan fronds! (that look like rhinoceros) ha ha ha

A new favorite of mine!!!
Come see us today!

Canary Palms and Dact Palms...

Hi!

Canary Island Date Palms and Phoenix Dactylifera Date Palms are like uummmm
... Batman and Robin, Sonny and Cher, Bert and Ernie, ham and eggs, bread and butter, chipped beef and gravy.... well you get the picture.  Beautiful in their own right, but aren't they a handsome pair?

Fortunately for us, we have them here at the Gregory Palm Farms so you can see first hand their similarities, their differences, their uniqueness and all their glorious shade!!

Here, we have the Canaries on the right and left with the Dacts in the middle. The fronds are tied up since the transplant. But aren't they glorious together!!!

The diamond cut on the trunk of the Dact versus the smooth trunk of the Canary!
The large pineapple head of the Canary and the slender top of the Dact!
The Canaries have a robust green while the Dact have a (tied up) lighter blueish-green!

So, here you go... together at last. Like parted lovers together again, Elizabeth and Darcy. haha
Ok, I am a bit mushy today but you have to admit, they are spectacular!!!

Come see us today!  Happy Friday!
What is your dream?

We are in Laguna Niguel Today!!

Hi!

The day started off with loading trees and equipment for our job in Laguna Niguel!

Nope, we are not moving any existing trees or building  any ramps  today.

Today, they are our trees. There is a mix with  a Triangle Palm, Phoenix Dactylifera and a Giant Fishtail Palm.  The products are beautiful and ready for a new home.

Kevin and the guys are there, ready to go! Our mighty little excavator and little Hino are on the job to make it fast and clean!

Those holes are done and ready for the trees!
Look at that dirt pile!!
Someone making a garden? Just Kidding!
Each job requires the utmost care especially with plumbing, electric, gas and a host of other wires and pipes that that dirt hides.
In about three hours, the  location will be cleaned of excess dirt and debris. It will be the host for a variety of new palm trees that the customer will surely enjoy.

I'm sure glad it's not 104 today!
Happy Palm Trees!

ANOTHER CANARY ISLAND DATE BUT.....

Hi!
Did I say before that Canary Island Date Palms are one of our specialties?
This time this situation was different!

The customer had a Canary next to their house. The tree at the time was planted toooo close to the structure. FYI, we did NOT plant this tree originally.

Sometimes, when a tree is small, the client is unaware of the growth potential. The growth of a tree is part of the sale. We  educate each customer here at the Gregory Palm Farms for the best results!!

So, this was a case of a small tree growing in the wrong location.

What did we do?
The Gregory Palm Farms came to the rescue!!!
We relocated this beauty from it's original location to ...

A new home at their home!

Now, this Canary that was struggling in its old location, is now going to thrive in it's new spot!
This tree has approximately 10 feet of trunk. The fronds were cut back before the move because there was not sufficient room for them.
The customer didn't think we could pick up this tree with our Telehandler.
BUT WE COULD! AND WE DID!!!
Just wait, in a couple of months, this tree will be a beauty!!!

So, not only do we sell our trees, we locate and help other trees.

Whatever it is....
Come to the Gregory Palm Farms and we will definitely take care of you!

See you Soon!

How Do We Get That Palm WHERE????

Hi!

Mel and Janet came to the Palm Farm looking for a beautiful specimen palm to accent their backyard pool area.  As they looked around, they decided on a multi-trunk Mediterranean Fan Palm.  It was 10 feet tall and over 4 feet wide. A real beauty!!

Their only concern was the location and actually, more about the access. So, we drove over to their home and to see where the installation was planned. First of all, there wasn't any room for a crane.to hoist this bad boy to the back.  Secondly, there were a series of steps leading
                           A L L   T H E   W A Y  D O W N   T O   T H E   B A C K Y A R D.

                                           Hmmmmmm!!!

It's easy.... we will build a ramp!!

Yes, folks, we built a ramp!! A HUGE ramp!!

Now, that's what I call service!
The guys slid the giant palm tree down the ramp and used our palm dolly (4X4) to get it close to the planter's hole.

AND......

                                                IT'S IN!!!

DO YOU  HAVE A JOB THAT YOU THINK CAN'T BE DONE?
HA, HA, HA! YES, IT CAN!!!

Come see us at the Gregory Palm Farms and let's create a dream come true!!

It's Hot All Right!

Hi!

It's hot all right! I have an idea for you...

          In a word.... a  Hammock!!!

That's right!  I was at my son's house and hung between his queen palm trees was the most inviting hammock! It was swaying in the gentle breeze with the most comfortable pillow I'd ever seen. (or maybe because any pillow on a hammock would be awesome!)

So, I thought... now that's a great idea. Here at the Gregory Palm Farms, our queen palms are extremely affordable and are fast growing while being drought resistant. You can plant them say, this weekend and by weekend end, you could be swaying in the breeze taking in these gorgeous California days.

I was reading another blog about hammocks. There was concern about how far apart the trees have to be to install the hammock. The answers were hilarious: One said, "plant a tree and wait 15 years!!!"
Another one said, "read the introductions and wait." And another one still said, "does anyone really lay around in a hammock on a regular basis?"

Seriously, YOU DON'T HAVE TO WAIT!!!

As I write this blog, I'm having the staff hang one up for me. So, if you come by to check out our palms, you will find me swinging in the breeze between two gorgeous Queen Palm Trees.

Fruit bearing Palm trees.... they have yummy seeds!!!!

Hi!

Did you know that the Pindo palm has absolutely delicious seeds?
They taste like a woodsy apricot. I make palm jelly for us and is  a great gift.

But that's not all. The Pindo palm is robust and beautiful. Their blue-ish green, curly fronds make this palm tree a graceful addition to any landscape design... while bearing yummy fruit!!!

It's formal name: Butia Capitata

Just for your information, this tree is NOT a fast growing tree. It's drought resistant and hearty.
It's my favorite! A palm tree that bears delicious fruit while providing shade, ambiance and beauty.
This Jelly Pindo Palm is simply gorgeous!!

We have them here at Gregory Palm Farms!
We have a 20 footer and 24" boxed Pindos.

Dare to be different!

Come see us at the Gregory Palm Farms.
