Go Australia!!!!!!! I just got back from a trip to Australia this week with my new husband Travis, and we couldn't believe all the amazing palms! We are so lucky to have a climate that is similar to their's, we can grow most of the tropical palms that are thriving in Oz! While driving through the vast deep green forests and rivers I couldn't help but notice the King palms, Triangle palms, Raphis palms, queen palms, Travelers palms, Giant bird of paradise, Canary Island Date palms,Butia Capitata, Kentia palms and many many more!!!!
We visited the Crocodile Hunters Zoo, (The Australia Zoo) up in Brisbane where they had Crocodiles,Tigers, koala's, Kangaroo's, Dingo's,Elephants, and so many more animals! The landscape was amazing! They had walls that were made out of Triangle palms, beautiful picturesque waterfalls and ponds with lush bamboo and king palms galore. Islands of palms with Butia Capitata's, King palms, Kentia palms, Phoenix Robellinis and Queen palms. Everything was planted so well it was almost like the zoo grew on its own!!
Hats off to the wonderful Irwin family and staff of the Australia zoo, you rock!!

Summer growth!

Hi everyone!

Well the summer sun is definitely reminding us why we live in southern California! The palm trees are loving it and seem to be growing like weeds!!

Just the other day I went to measure our 'Caryota Gigas' (giant fishtail palm) and they had grown almost two feet from last year! The tallest one is 8 feet already!

Its amazing what a little water, fertilizer, sun and a little bit of TLC really does for our trees.

So when thinking about a tree that is different, grows moderately fast, and has a very unique and graceful look to it think about the Fishtail palm.

We have these in 42'' boxes available for a home today! They have a great big canopy that will spread out and give you shade on those hot summer days, along with the tropical fishtail leaves that are so spectacularly amazing in there own right!

Come down and see not only the Fishtail palm but, all of our California grown palms!

Instant Landscape

Good morning!

Well today I spoke to a few customers already asking about "Instant Landscape" palms. What that means is, when choosing your palm trees for your landscape people often want palms that are already somewhat mature and have looks of a tree that has been planted for a while. Usually if that is the case we will start with a 30'' box size and go up from there. Generally anything in a 30'' box has an approximate age of at least 8-12 years, therefore looking established. After that we go to 36',42'',48''...and on...there are just so many different sizes depending on the palm.

From past customers we have put in large 42''-72'' box Mediteranean fan palms, 36'' -48'' king palms, Large 42''-48'' box Majesty's, 30''-36'' box Triangles, Specimen Sago's,Queens,Dactyliferas, Butia Capitata's with a minumum of 5' of trunk and of coarse many large specimen Canary Island Date palms. There are many many more palm types and sizes to choose from to make your landscape 'instant" and uniquely different.

We grow everything from the seed in the ground making the trees have larger calipur and growing quality that our customers love! Contact us today to create your dream landscape :)

Summer is here!!!

Hi Everyone! Well, summer is here at last! The weather is getting hotter and the trees are loving it.

Certain palms that we grow do exceptionally well and get a nice chalky blue hue in the leaf color when the temperature gets above 90 degrees in the summer. Depending on the palm the blue coloration could be more noticeable than others .Palms such as the, Brahea Armata (Mexican Blue), Butia Capitata (Pinto/Jelly), Chamerops Hummillis (Mediteranean), and the Phoenix Dactylifera date palms are great examples of this.

If you are looking to create a dessert or Mediterranean themed landscape these would do the job beautifully!

Thank you and have a glorious day!

Our most favorite, the King Palm

Lately i have been following what customers and viewers have been interested in the past few years and the King palm has always been so high on the list every time. It is a very straight and slender palm with gracefull leaves and clean ringed trunks that can grow up to 30ft or more in maturity. The genus name Archotophoenix translates from the Greek as "king" and "date palm", which today is commonly known as the king palm.
This palm tree is majestic with options of growing them in groups of two, three, four or more to further the specimen look you want. They are self cleaning and are hardy enough to withstand cold up to 25 degrees!
Its no wonder this is the most popular tree, it is easy to maintane, grows moderatly, has elegant shaps and a tropical look like none other.

Planting season!

Hello everyone!

Now that its March and the sun is finally here we can get back to planting!! March is a prime month for us to plant and stock our fields with the best palms California can provide. Our Pauma Valley growing grounds is our primary farm where we grow the largest variety of our palms. We are starting there this week with open fields of rich soil and water leading down from Mt. Palomar.

We are going to be planting our seedling Windmill palms,Butia palms and Sago cycads from our greenhouse. Every palm tree that we plant comes from one of our many mature "Seeder" palms. These Seeder palms are mature trees that are grown specially for there seeds. We always keep them growing in the ground, with plenty of water, vitamins, and minerals so that they can be as healthy, happy, and hardy as they can to produce the best seeds possible.

Once we get the seeds we germinate them in our greenhouses to get them strong enough for planting the following year or two. Usually we like to plant the seedlings when they are either in 1 gal or 5 gal tub sizes so that they have optimum growing potential.

When the seedlings are ready we plant them usually about 10 feet apart from each other to make sure there is plenty of space and sunlight for each palm.

Now that the trees are being planted and taken care of in the fields, we watch and let our palm trees grow until its time to box and send them to their future homes.

Hope everyone has a great sunny week!!

Rachell Gregory :)
