GREGORY PALM FARMS HAS BEEN BUSY INSTALLING PALMS... CHECK IT OUT! (714)814-8525 WE DO IT ALL! CALL THE GROWER Gregory Palm Farms- TRUST THE BEST!

During the past month or two, Gregory Palm Farms has been very busy installing palm trees all over Southern and Northern California.

We have installed several large residential projects from Del Mar to Napa Valley. A new face lift for the McFadden Center in Santa Ana replacing some aging Liquid Amber trees with 11 new 15 foot Phoenix Dactylifera Palm Trees.

The Roger Dunn Golf Center in Santa Ana was also home to several new palm trees for their parking lot and entrance.
Gregory Palm Farms was selected as the contractor of choice for a landscape remodel job for The Terrace Apartments in Orange, CA. This large apartment complex is near the famous Block at Orange shopping mall. This job utilized several large Washingtonia Hybrids over with over 20 foot of trunk.

We also recently completed the landscaping of Lexus of Escondido with several large Phoenix Dactylifera Palm Trees as well as the installation of several large Phoenix Canariensis for a residential homeowner in Del Mar.

A recent trip to Napa Valley also utilized a large Phoenix Canariensis that had to be trucked up a large hilltop location with narrow, winding roads. This tree was the centerpiece of a large custom home built by a couple as their dream home overlooking the Napa Valley.Gregory Palm Farms is also in the midst of some large palm trees to several residential homes in the Yorba Linda and Anaheim Hills area.

Working with large palm trees requires not only expertise, but the proper equipment for moving
and installing these large specimen trees. Gregory has not only the expertise, but all the necessary equipment to handle jobs from small residential projects, to large commercial and industrial projects. Trucks, cranes, loaders and lifts are all part of the Gregory Palm Farms equipment to make sure the job is done properly and professionally.

If you are planning to install multiple palm trees, call us today for a FREE consultation.

One of our Gregory Palm Farms family members will come to your home or office or project site and help with the complete overall design and recommend the best trees for your installation.

DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER.... DIAMOND CUT DACT DATE PALM TREES THAT IS! GREGORY PALM FARMS (714) 814--8525. BEST PRICES ON PALMS

HI

IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY AND TODAY'S SPECIAL ARE DIAMONDS!!!
THE INTRICATE CUT OF A DIAMOND  IS SO BEAUTIFUL!

"A diamond cut is a style or design guide used when shaping a diamond for polishing such as the brilliant cut. Cut does not refer to shape (pear, oval), but the symmetry, proportioning and polish of a diamond. The cut of a diamond greatly affects a diamond's brilliance; this means if it is cut poorly, it will be less luminous."

SO, WHAT DOES DIAMONDS HAVE TO DO WITH PALMS???

Similarly to a real diamond, the diamond cut is a style or design that we use in cutting the fronds and shaping the trunks of the Canary Island Date Palm and the Phoenix Dactylifera!!

The Cut does refer to a shape; pear, oval or diamond.
The cut of a diamond greatly affects a Palm tree's brilliance; this means if it is cut poorly, it will be less luminous.

That is why, the diamond cut is so important on these types of palm trees.
It effects their beauty but also their health!!

One of the quickest ways to kill a Phoenix Dactylifera (Date Palm) or a Phoenix Canariensis (Canary Island Date Palm) is to over-water it with poorly draining soil. Such is the case in these pictures below. This Phoenix Dactylifera was properly installed at the customer site with a french drain and properly prepared soil. However, the water level wasn't being monitored by the landscape maintenance personnel and as a result the tree died. More is better? Not in the case of water!

At Gregory Palm Farms, all of our Phoenix Dactylifera and Phoneix Canariensis trees are installed with a french drain to allow for proper watering and draining. However, these drains need to be monitored to make sure that the trees aren't being over-watered and the roots left in standing water as was the case with this tree. It might seem like a lot of work. It's NOT! The landscape maintenance crew are there anyway, they should spot check the pipes. AND MAKE SURE THE PIPE TOPS ARE NOT COVERED!!  It takes less than a minute. AND IF YOU WOULD LIKE A MAINTENANCE PROGRAM, GREGORY PALM FARMS DOES THAT AS WELL.

Proper installation with a french drain, watering schedule and appropriate feeding along with monitoring the drainage will insure a healthy growing tree. These trees are very expensive to replace, so proper care and maintenance is critical to keep the trees healthy.

Root ball of an over-watered tree - water didn't drain! So, now it is really stinky with putrid water. The palm literally died from mold and goo.

Removal of the over-watered tree

Standing water in the root area caused this tree to die - make sure the air pipes are installed and are checked for drainage! That's why we put them in!!!
Clean out all damaged soil and replace with sand.

How to Make your Palms grow? Growing Tips for Palms from the Gregory palm farms…714-814-8525 Date Palm, Delivery and installation of palms - best prices and best service

There are hundreds of types of palm trees (Arecaceae) that grow well in U.S. Department of Agriculture Plant Hardiness Zones 8 through 10. Medium-sized palms grow from 10 to 25 feet and tall palms can reach heights of 40 to 70 feet. The best time to plant palms is in the spring after the last frost, so it has the longest growing season before chilly temperatures arrive. Palm trees require a specialized plant food that meets all of their nutrient requirements and helps them grow faster. Taking proper care of a palm tree will help it grow quickly and fill in your landscape with a tall focal point.

Planting Area

1

Plant a palm tree in an area with good drainage that receives full to partial sun. Dig a hole with a shovel that is twice as wide as the root ball and the same depth as the pot.

2

Spread the palm tree roots outward. Cut through any roots that grow in a circle with pruning shears. This enables roots to grow outward quickly, become well- established in the soil sooner, and encourages new growth.

3

Fill the remainder of the hole with soil and pack it down by stepping on it. Place mulch in a ring around the tree on the edges of the hole to a height of 3 inches; the watering basin holds water at the root area, so irrigation reaches the roots for faster growth.

Irrigation

1

Place a soaker hose in a circle in the watering basin.

2

Turn the hose on low and allow water to fill the basin slowly. Palms are drought tolerant but grow faster when they receive slow, deep watering.

3

Turn the water off when the watering basin is full. Check the moistness of the soil about once a week during the summer and irrigate whenever the soil is dry in the basin.

Fertilizer

1

ORGANIC - Fertilize a palm tree after planting it in the spring and twice more, with the last application in August.

2

Measure the correct amount of palm tree food for the size of your tree according to the package directions; some products determine the amount by the tree height and others determine it by the trunk size.

3

Place the palm tree food in a bowl or container. Sprinkle fertilizer in an equal distribution in the watering basin around the tree.

4

Water the plant food with a garden hose until the basin is full and the granules melt.

Pruning

1

Cut brown fronds off a palm tree in dry weather with pruning shears or loping shears on larger palms to direct the nutrients from palm food and water into the growing top of the tree.

2

Examine the tree and notice the head at the top. Imagine the head as a clock face with the horizontal axis in the center of the head. Trim off browning fronds below the 3:00 and 9:00 area.

3

Prune each frond off as close to the trunk as possible but do not cut into the trunk.

Phoenix Dactylifera aka Date Palm

Date Palms are probably the second most well-known palm after the coconut , this palm produces dates. However, despite this palm being extremely adaptable to differing growing conditions, from hot, dry deserts, to wet tropics, and thru to cold-temperate regions, it will only produce dates in the hot, dry climates. It is also very salt-tolerant, making it good for coastal planting.
