It is a tough plant and survives in both hot & cold urban landscapes and even thrives in Northern California and Washington climates. Windmill palm is perfect for containers if care is taken that they are well drained. It is very attractive planted in groves and groupings especially when plants of different heights are staggered in irregular patterns.

The Windmill Palm is great for indoor and outdoor landscaping and can withstand hot and cold climates.They are easily identified with their "hairy" trunks. Those fibres insulates the tree during those extreme weather patterns.

I call them our "hairy" palms. Why? They have a hairy-type trunk. It insulates them from the extreme hot and cold. They are an unusual palm with a "windmill" type head.
