The Mediteranean Fan Palm is a clumping palm tree, growing slowly to 20 feet high, trunks 4 to 5 inches in diameter, covered with fibrous dead leaf petioles; triangular, fan-shaped blue-grey to green leaves 36 to 48 inches long and wide with spiny petioles. It is a shrub-like clumping palm, with several stems growing from a single base. The stems grow slowly and often tightly together, eventually reaching 16-20 feet tall with a trunk diameter of 4-5 inches. It is a fan palm, with the leaves a long petiole terminating in a rounded fan of 10-20 leaflets; each leaf is up to 3-4 feet long, with the leaflets 1 - 2 feet long. It also has numerous sharp needle-like spines produced on the leaf stems; these protect the stem growing point from browsing animals. The flowers are born in dense, short clusters at the top of the stems; it is usually (but not invariably) dioecious with male and female flowers on separate plants. The fruit is a brown drupe 1/2 - 3/4 inches long. Gregory Palms has been selected as the palm tree vendor of choice to install several large specimen Canary Island Palm trees,some large specimen Washingtonia's and a variety of other large palm trees including several Reclinata's. These trees are being installed in a large residential home in Yorba Linda. Due to the large size and number of specimen trees, this job will take several weeks to complete. Photos below show the various trees being shipped to the job site as well as some of the large Canary Island palm trees being moved to the back yard of the residence. A large crane is being used to move the trees from the truck to the location and then placed according to the architect's plans.
