Hi!

Need a little boost on how to get started planting a palm tree? Or call us !

How to plant a Palm Tree

Want to establish an exotic look in your yard? Plant a palm tree! Plenty of varieties could work in your area. Short palms, tall palms, desert palms and cold-hardy palms grow well in different parts of the country. Follow these steps to learn how to choose and plant palms for a backyard oasis. Gregory Palm Farms has the Palm Trees you desire! Contact us, pick out your palm, and we will take care of the rest. It's that easy...

1. Choose the Right Palm For Your Climate

If you experience milder winters, you can grow most any palm variety and can make your selection based on size and appearance. If you're in a part of the country where winter temperatures can dip into the 20s, you can still enjoy a variety of palm trees in your yard, including the shorter 8- to 10-foot sago palms and saw palmettos, and the taller European fan palms and Chinese windmill palms, which can reach 15 to 20 feet in height.

2. Decide Where to Plant Your Palm Tree

The right place for your palm will vary depending on what type of tree you have. Some grow tall fast; others need shoulder room. Different species require different exposure to sun. Be sure to find out what kind of space your tree will require as it grows by following the instructions on the tree's tag or asking the staff of your local garden center. Have a Gregory Palm Farms expert come and help you decide what Palm Tree is right for your space.

3. Planting Your Palm Tree

Once you've purchased your palm tree from Gregory Palm Farms, be sure to keep the root ball, the tree's central mass of roots, moist but not saturated. Dig a hole that's twice as wide as your root ball, and deep enough that the top of the root ball sits one inch about the soil. Place the root ball in the hole and backfill with a mixture of one part native soil and one part Miracle Gro® Garden Soil for Palm Cactus & Citrus. This contains plant food specifically formulated for palms, cactus and citrus plants that will feed your palm for up to 3 months.

4.

   Water Thirsty New Palm Trees

For 2 to 3 weeks after you've planted your palm, keep it well watered. Wrapping a soaker hose around the root area will keep it moist while saving water. After the plant becomes established, you can cut back soak-watering your palm to about 15 minutes twice a month. Cut back on watering during the winter months.

5. Feed Your Palm Tree

Palms have nutritional needs that other trees may not. They depend on ample supplies of magnesium, iron and manganese to keep fronds from yellowing or curling. To keep your palm green and strong, apply Miracle-Gro® Shake 'n Feed Continuous Release Palm Plant Food early in the season, and then about every 3 months thereafter. Work it into the top 1 to 3 inches of soil around the roots, then water thoroughly.

Sound like too much work? Don't have that kind of time to plan, design, dig, plant, and nurture? Let Gregory Palm Farms take care of everything for you! We strive in exceeding your outdoor living space dreams, and make your space feel more at home. Call today to make an appointment to check out what we have available for your next big project! CANARY ISLAND DATE PALMS…WHY WE WAIT TO UNTIE FRONDS AFTER TRANSPLANT…714-814-8525! WHERE YOU GO FOR PALMS! OPEN DAILY

Hi,

We Recommend waiting at least a month for the roots to grow and establish themselves before untying. Keeping fronds tied protects from high winds and is a huge important factor in helping the fronds retain that crucial water as they need a lot of it after transplant.

We are here any time by appointment and open weekends!

Stop by our farm in Pauma Valley at 32266 Rincon Ranch rd. Or call for a virtual tour of our farm and pick your palm over the phone.

PALMS INSTALLED IN BEVERLY HILLS! WE DELIVERY ALL OVER SOUTHERN CALIFORNA! Gregory Palm Farms - (714) 814-8525 CHECK OUT THIS INSTALLATION OF PALMS! Canary Island Date Palms

BEVERLY HILLS is known for it's custom homes, incredible ocean views and winding roads. But that didn't stop Gregory Palms from delivering and installing a variety of palm trees to this custom Malibu Canyon home.

The owner of this amazing home had called several different landscape contractors, but none of them wanted to attempt to move all the trees up a narrow, 1.5 mile winding road.

Gregory Palms stepped up and said YES!

This project included large Canary Island Palms, Washingtonia Palms, Sago Palms and Triangle Palms.

Due to the location and the long, winding road, the palm trees had to be off-loaded from the semi-trucks onto smaller trucks for the 1.5 mile ride up the small, winding road. Because of the size and weight of the larger trees, the smaller truck needed to be pulled up the hill with a tractor in order to get it in position! The tree was WAY to heavy to drive it.

Here are some pictures of the installation and the move.

If you are planning to install multiple Canary Island palms or other types of palm trees, call us today for a FREE consultation. One of our Gregory Palm Farms family members will come to your home or project site and help with the complete overall design and recommend the best trees for your installation. Call (714) 814-8525 to schedule an appointment today! You can also visit our website for a complete catalog of palm trees along with pictures and descriptions http://gregorypalmfarms.com

Macho Date Palms are male Date Palms and you can tell them apart from their female counterparts by their thicker and more robust trunks. The Macho’s do not get seeds only flowers.

Did you know that there are 13 species of date palms but the (Phoenix Dactylifera) Date Palm, is the true Date palm because it’s the only one of the species that produces edible fruit.
