Homeowners Beware!!

When shopping for palm trees, especially Canary Island Date Palms, BUYER BEWARE!

Unfortunately, in the palm tree business there are a lot of ""brokers" that have very little or no experience in growing, trimming, transporting or installing Canary Island Palm Trees. They usually contract with homeowners to pay them for the removal of their palm trees. Once the broker has the tree under contract, they start advertising that they have "Canary Island Palm Trees" for sale at a bargain price.

Most of these brokers are NOT certified nursery growers or contractors, so they are not familiar with removing and installing these types of trees. Because Canary Island Palms are very susceptible to Fusarium wilt disease which is highly contagious and will eventually kill the tree, most brokers don't know how to identify this disease in a tree and end up selling infected trees to unsuspecting homeowners.

How much do we charge? What’s an estimate look like for a tree like this? This was located in La Mesa, San Diego and so delivery costs will vary depending on location. The 6 foot Mexican Blue was 1,800.00 and delivery was 800.00. Our install cost for a tree this size was 1,000.00 including clean sand, fertilizer, etc! Good Morning Friends!!

New project for Gregory Palm Farms was a success! Yesterday, we had our staff out in Los Angeles doing a removal of an ill Canary Island Date Palm as seen in the first picture above. The dead Canary Palm had to be dug out and removed to make way for a new Canary Island Date Palm. Before inserting the new palm the hole and palm were treated with fungicide to make sure anything that was left from the previous palm would not stay behind and make the new palm ill too. Once that process was finished, the new palm was set in and back filled with washed, cleaned sand. Now, it stands beautifully in its new home as shown in the picture above!

The SAGO PALM is perfectly suited for both an indoor and outdoor environment. The Cycas revoluta aka Sago Palm makes a great decorative addition to any home or garden. It is an extremely slow-growing cycad with only about 1" of growth in height and trunk diameter a year. The trunk, which is typically 8" in diameter, supports a thick crown of rigid, dark green fronds.

The sago thrives best in either partial shade or full sun exposure and requires weekly watering until established and then it is able to survive drought-like conditions. The soil needs to have good drainage and be rich in humus.
