Windmill Palm- Trachycarpus Fortunei The Windmill palm makes a great accent which fits well into small areas like courtyards and entries. It is a tough plant and survives in both hot & cold urban landscapes and even thrives in Northern California and Washington climates. Windmill palm is perfect for containers if care is taken that they are well drained. It is very attractive planted in groves and groupings especially when plants of different heights are staggered in irregular patterns. Today I was walking around the farm and the Blue Hesper palm caught my eye! This palm is a famously hardy blue palm from Mexico. These little beauties are a wonderful accent to any landscape. They are slow growing and easy to maintain. They have a nice full head of Blueish colored fan leaves and are perfect for our Southern California environment. They can be planted in a sunny spot in the garden or even partial shade, however, a well drained soil is a must! The palm can withstand -10 degree Celsius winters when mature and even droughts!
