HOW CAN I SAVE WATER WHILE STILL WATERING MY PALMS AND LANDSCAPE? Gregory Palm Farms to the rescue! (714)343-1964/760)975-4605 OPEN DAILY

 Hi!

What is the best method to conserve water while hydrating my landscaping?

In a simple process, drip lines!! We use them all over the farm, some 40 acres. If we have a

blow out, there are plugs, connectors and 2 gallon emitters. There are greater emitters, we find the 2 gallons an hour perfect. We water early in the morning before it gets hot!

Remember, check those emitters once a month to make sure there is no debris stuck inside, you will be glad you did.

We want you to have a beautiful landscape with the best possible watering system! In that, you can enjoy your palms while not worrying about your wallet!

HOW TO SPRUCE UP YOUR YARD? WHAT ABOUT KING PALMS? Gregory Palm Farms 714-814-8525 or 760-975-4605! OPEN DAILY

Hi palm fans,

Summer is here and what a great way to begin with a majestic, elegant King Palm?
SELF CLEANING PALM!

The King Palm, or Archontophoenix Cunninghamiana, is part of a genus of palms that naturally grows as  a solitary trunk tree, but will harmoniously grow if planted two or three together. We have double and triple trunk specimens too!

King palms

These palms are best known for their long, thin elegant trunks and crowns topped with large leaves.  It produces small purple yellow or white flowers that produce red fruits. The new leaves unfurl as a copper color, creating a beautiful contrast with the deep olive green of the existing leaves and the crown of the trunk. Mature trunks can grow up to 60 feet tall and up to 10 inches in diameter.  Additionally, the leaf crown can reach up to 12 feet itself with a span of 15 feet wide. These palms survive best in dry climates, but have been proven to survive in temperatures below zero (something we don't have to worry about here)!

One of the quickest ways to kill a Phoenix Dactylifera (Date Palm) or a Phoenix Canariensis (Canary Island Date Palm) is to over-water it with poorly draining soil. Such is the case in these pictures below. This Phoenix Dactylifera was properly installed at the customer site with a french drain and properly prepared soil. However, the water level wasn't being monitored by the landscape maintenance personnel and as a result the tree died. More is better? Not in the case of water!

At Gregory Palm Farms, all of our Phoenix Dactylifera and Phoneix Canariensis trees are installed with a french drain to allow for proper watering and draining. However, these drains need to be monitored to make sure that the trees aren't being over-watered and the roots left in standing water as was the case with this tree. It might seem like a lot of work. It's NOT! The landscape maintenance crew are there anyway, they should spot check the pipes. AND MAKE SURE THE PIPE TOPS ARE NOT COVERED!!  It takes less than a minute. AND IF YOU WOULD LIKE A MAINTENANCE PROGRAM, GREGORY PALM FARMS DOES THAT AS WELL.

Proper installation with a french drain, watering schedule and appropriate feeding along with monitoring the drainage will insure a healthy growing tree. These trees are very expensive to replace, so proper care and maintenance is critical to keep the trees healthy.

Root ball of an over-watered tree - water didn't drain! So, now it is really stinky with putrid water. The palm literally died from mold and goo.

Removal of the over-watered tree

Standing water in the root area caused this tree to die - make sure the air pipes are installed and are checked for drainage! That's why we put them in!!!
Clean out all damaged soil and replace with sand.
