Well its that time of year when the palms are growing happily and loosing those old leaves from last season! 

If you are a homeowner or landscaper and have plans of trimming the palms, here is some valuable advice.  

Most palm trees shed their fronds naturally to let you know it is time to trim! 

The Canary Island Date Palm should only be  pruned when the fronds hang below a line parallel to the ground. USE A NEW OR VERY CLEAN CHAIN SAW (ONE THAT HAS BEEN SPRAYED AND WIPED WITH BLEACH) DON'T EVER USE A CHAIN SAW THAT HAS BEEN OPERATED ON OTHER PALM TREES... That is a disaster waiting to happen.

If the Palm pruning is done incorrectly, the palms will lose their vigor causing it to attract and transmit diseases, reduce the nutritional health of the tree, affect its natural cold hardiness and lower its tolerance to wind.
