Palm trees more than others need lots of water just like humans when it comes to hot weather. 

They will start to droop down and turn a bit yellow when in need of water. 

Some of our favorite and very drought hardy palms are the Mediterranean Fan Palm and the Mexican Blue. The Canary Island Date Palm and the Phoenix Dactylifera Date Palm can tolerate low water and a drought well too once established.

Know when to plant...

Newly planted trees do best when exposed to moderate temperature and rainfall. 

They need time to root and acclimatize before the onset of intense heat and dryness of summer or the freezing temperatures of winter.

Early Spring and early fall, therefore, are generally the best planting season. We are lucky living in Southern California, virtually all months are good.

Good Morning All,

Gregory Palm Farms had the pleasure of doing a job out in Trabucco Canyon this week, here are some pictures of the job. The palms had to be lifted over the house onto the back yard by a crane. That is something that is done when the side entrances aren't wide enough to get the palms through or if the palms are too heavy to man-power it to the back yard. What a site to see, flying palms!!

Heat, is known to kill palm trees. Especially those that are not drought tolerant. 

Make sure to water the rootball down to its core. Get that sucker soaked in this heat! Do not wet palm fronds in this heat. The left over water left on palm fronds(leaves) will burn dry through the leaves.
