How to Care for Your Sago Palm by Gregory Palm Farms (714) 814-8525 We have sago palm specimens with double heads! OPEN DAILY - LOOKING FOR A CANARY PALM? WE HAVE THEM TOO!

Previously, we talked about how to separate and transplant a sago pup. This is a good time to go over how to properly care for your sago palm. The symmetry of the glossy fronds and the way the zig-zag pattern on the trunk gives it a prehistoric vibe with a tropical twist. They are also so versatile! They not only look good outdoors as decorations for entryways but they also make excellent indoor plants as well due to their slow-growth rate.

Here are  some tips below for properly caring for your indoor cycad.

Looking for a double headed sago as a focal point to your landscape... we have them!
Looking for matching sagos for a big job... we have them.
Looking to add diversity  indoor... we have them.

Care tips for indoor sago palms:
  • Give it just the right amount of sun. The key to your sago thriving both indoors (and outdoors!) is how much light it receives. Too much direct sun can burn those pretty green fronds. Partial sun is ideal. I also recommended turning the sago a quarter of a turn every couple of days to make sure the fronds each get their turn in the sun, allowing for them to grow out more evenly.
  • Keep it out of high traffic areas! This is beneficial for both you and the sago. The fronds are pretty stiff with a sharp point at the end of the frond. You will get tired super quick after a few brushes with its leaves.
  • Watching the watering. Too much water, and your sago will have some rot issues. Only water your sago again when the soil is starting to feel dry. Also, make sure it has good drainage and remove any sitting, leftover water after each watering.
  • Fertilize once a month during growing season (spring through fall). Be mindful not to over fertilize your plant as this could result in fertilizer burn, causing yellowing and root damage.
  • To prune or not to prune? Trimming your sago's fronds is completely up to you and your personal taste. The cone that grows from the center can be removed as long as its done carefully. Otherwise, if left alone, will just fall off on its own.
  • Upgrade to a pot 2 inches bigger than the one it's currently in. When the sago begins to outgrow the pot it's in, it's time to move it to a bigger home. Again, make sure that there is good drainage to prevent rot.

Phoenix Rupicola or Cliff Date Palms AT Gregory Palm Farms. MORE DELICATE THAN A CANARY PALM. WE HAVE THEM AT Gregory Palm Farms (714)814-8525 WE ARE THE CANARY DEPOT!

Hi!
Gregory Palm Farms has a great selection of palms including the Phoenix Rupicola palm also known as the Cliff Date Palm. This grand palm is a species of flowering plant in the Phoenix Palm family and usually occurs on cliffs, hillsides and similar terrain. It usually reaches a height of about 30 feet.
This palm is much more delicate in stature than a Canary Island Date Palm. Even though they look similar, this palm is perfect for planters because of its thinner trunk width.
Their growth rate is slow and when young, they do better in moderate sunlight, once they mature they are fine with full sunlight.

If you are in the market for these beautiful palms, Gregory Palm Farms is the place to come to. Give us a call at 714-814-8525 or visit us!

We hope you have a great day!

HOW TO CARE FOR PYGMY PALMS - Phoenix Roebelenii BY GREGORY PALM FARMS (714) 814-8525. CANARY PALMS OF ALL SIZES

WE HAVE THE PYGMY DATE PALMS AT WHOLESALE PRICES! CALL US (714) 814-8525

The Pygmy Date Palm (Phoenix Roebelenii) is usually referred to as the miniature date palm, Robellini Palm, Miniature Date Palm. As a matter of fact, the specie is native to Southern China and is one of the most widely used landscape palms in the United States of America. Its small stature, slow growth, easy care and graceful crown have made it a popular accent plant in tropical settings. This breed of palm trees is one of the most adaptable palms for growing containers.
GREGORY PALM FARMS (714) 814-8525

Description
Its height is 6 - 12 feet, with a spread of 6 - 10 feet. Its leaves are usually 8 - 12 inches long. In terms of range, the Pygmy Date Palm is not native to North America. It is rather native to northern Laos, Vietnam, and southern China. The Palm has a slender trunk with old leaf scars. Reaching almost 4 feet in length, bright green leaves grow from the top of the trunk. Its arching stems are covered with 4 - 5 inch leaflets. The palm tree has stiff roots that easily break. It also produces creamy colored flowers that are followed by black dates.

General Care Tips
The pygmy palm is tough, and well conditioned for a tropical species. It is capable of withstanding temperatures slightly below freezing without suffering any damage; it makes a good candidate in zones 10 and 11. The cultural requirement most often neglected with this species is its moisture needs. This is because it is thirsty and needs constant and adequate water, sometimes capable of withstanding occasional flooding. It needs full sun and slightly acidic soil to thrive. If sufficient light is provided, it serves as an excellent choice for indoor growing.

Cultivation
The Pygmy Palm requires full sun to partial shade to develop. It can tolerate temperatures as low as 20â,,?. It can grow up to 10 feet tall and can adapt to all kinds of soils. It can tolerate cold conditions as low as 20â,,? when they are mature enough. The Pygmy Palm is also drought tolerant but thrives better in moist and well drained soils.

This breed of palm looks very graceful when planted in a group of 3 to 5 specimens. Just as has been previously stated, although it cherishes full sunlight it can also still grow in partial shade. In fact, the Pygmy Palm is a very popular indoor palm tree because it can thrive excellently well in any kind of container. It is used for designing decks or entry ways.

Pygmy Date Palm Fertilization
It is recommended that the Pygmy Date Palm should be fertilized 3 times a year during hot months with a fertilizer which contains magnesium and manganese.

Pygmy Date Palm Propagation
Because it takes around 3 - 4 months to germinate, the best conditions for germination would be warm, moist soil with sufficient shade which would protect the young seedlings from direct sunlight. This is where most farmers or people who desire to plant these palms make the most mistakes.

The Cycas Revoluta, or commonly known as the Sago Palm, is a wonderful plant for both indoor and outdoor use. It looks great in the shrub border or as an accent on an expanse of lawn or near the patio. Use in entryways or in rock and sand gardens. It mixes well with palms and combines well with border grass, podocarpus and camellias. The Sago Palm makes an excellent container plant for use outdoors and in the home. The Sago Palm tall trunk on older specimens, grows 8-10in diameter. It is more fern-like when small and produces offsets at base. It grows in full sun or partial shade and require a well prepared, non-alkaline soil with good drainage. Once established, the Sago Palm is fairly drought tolerant, but still requires regular watering. The Sago Palm is a slow growing palm with up to 10 ft fronds spread 3-6 ft. We have many sizes of Sago Palms from single trunk to multi-trunks specimens.
