IF YOU ARE REFERRING TO PALM PUPS AND NOT THE BARKING KIND, WE CAN HELP!
IF YOU ARE REFERRING TO PALM PUPS, THEY ARE THE SMALL PALMS GROWING AT THE BASE OF THE SAGO PALMS OR DATE PALMS.
Some people love the fullness of the pups around the base of the Sago palm, as shown here.
Others, prefer to have all the pups removed at the time of installation revealing only a textured trunk.
Either way, these Sago Palms are a perfect addition to any landscape and can be a wonderful container palms as well. They are slow growing and have a rich green colored fronds.
Each of those "pups" or small shoots are actually palms. If you plant them, they will grow!
Gregory Palm Farms is a California Palm Tree grower and one of the palms we specialize in is the King Palm.
Why is it important that our trees are Southern California Grown? If you see yellowed palms, it is usually for two reasons: 1) they are not getting the nutrients they need or 2) THEY ARE FROM FLORIDA!
PALMS FOR CALIFORNIA HAVE TO BE GROWN IN CALIFORNIA FOR THE BEST RESULTS.

King palms are a popular choice for homeowners throughout southern California. They are relatively low-maintenance, self cleaning and can bring a tropical vibe to any landscape. They are native to Australia and prefer warmer temperatures. They cannot tolerate anything below 28° Fahrenheit. To keep your king palm looking its best, I've provided some tips below.
Keep the soil moist! Compared to other palms, these babies require more water than most so make sure you don't let the soil try out. Obviously, you will find yourself watering more in the summer than in the winter.
Mix the soil up. Using a combination of both sand and soil will make your king palm the happiest. Use sand for the bottom of the planting site and a combination of sand and soil for the rest of the surrounding area.
Be careful when pruning. The king palm lacks the ability to heal itself and its for this reason that you must try to avoid pruning or removal of its flowers. Any cuts or damage to the tree leaves it vulnerable to fungus and diseases.
Fertilize your palm at least four times a year. Use a slow-release fertilizer that is formulated specifically for palms.
Watch for leaning. If you start notice that the palm is leaning more towards one side then its time to provide some extra support at the base. This can be accomplished by placing boards into the ground at its base and using bungee cords to set the palm upright. The boards can be removed once the tree is stronger and can support itself.
Interested in adding a king palm to your home or business? Come pick your palm with the Gregory Palm Farms! You wont be disappointed, and will love our prices! We have large specimens that have been growing for over 20 years too!
How much do we charge? What’s an estimate look like for a tree like this? This was located in La Mesa, San Diego and so delivery costs will vary depending on location. The 6 foot Mexican Blue was 1,800.00 and delivery was 800.00. Our install cost for a tree this size was 1,000.00 including clean sand, fertilizer, etc! Our prices are very reasonable and our palm trees are unique large specimens that take many years to become the established specimens they are. Come pick your palm and let us do the rest!

A BUTIA JELLY PALM - A PALM FOR LANDSCAPE AND A PALM THAT BEARS DELICIOUS FRUIT!
The fog is moving on and the sun is coming back to greet us today here at the farm! Summer weather is blooming with sunshine and heat, just the ticket for our palms. The roots grow deeper in the summer, the leaves fill out, and the seeds ripen for for the next planting season.
Speaking of seeds ripening, did you know you can eat a lot of the dates you see on palms? Most of them around here I wouldn't eat because they just aren't that sweet to my tastes buds but, the Butia Capitata or commonly known as the Jelly palm I would! These palms are gorgeous and are a slower growing palm with long curly leaves that have a nice blue/green hue to them. They produce seeds which then ripens into these tasty Jelly palm fruits!
If you haven’t tried them....just wait until the seeds get that orange and red coloration on them and then YUMMMM!! The taste of peach and strawberry come to mind when I bite into one! Juicy and firm, don't forget to watch out for that seed!
The Gregory family has made jelly out of this Jelly palm and its one for the books. A little pectin, some sugar, and a whole bunch of pitted Butia palms fruits. Its definitely something to try :)
Call us today to get a Jelly palm of your own or any other palm tree for your landscape or garden!
The King Palm aka Archontophoenix Cunninghamiana.... say that three times fast!
These palms are SELF CLEANING!! THAT'S RIGHT! SELF CLEANING! HOW???
When the old fronds are ready to go, THEY FALL OFF! THAT's right! The old dead fronds fall to the ground and you just toss them away! Or better yet, make a mulch of them.
The trunks are reddish with green new growth. They are really pretty actually.
As the old fronds fall off, a smooth trunk is left....
The canopy from a king is full and lovely!
AND, IF YOU WANT BABY KINGS, the females seed once the tree has about 12' of trunk.
We were asked for these seed pods by a florist. It seems they are used for all sorts of decor.
