The scientific name for the Sago Palm is Cycas Revoluta and is not a palm at all, but a cycad.
Of all the cycads, the Sago Palm is the most popular, and is seen in almost all botanical gardens, in both temperate and tropical locations.
Sago Palm Characteristics
- Stem/Trunk: Tall trunk on old specimens, 8-10in diameter; more fern-like when small; produces offsets at base.
- Exposure: Full sun or part shade
- Soil: Prepared, not tolerant of alkaline soils, good drainage
- Water: Regular, although drought tolerant once established
- Growth Rate: 10ft, frond spread 3-6ft; extremely slow growth
We have many sizes of Sago Palms from single head to multi-head specimens.
